The Basis of Supply Chain Management

There are two key ideas for this method. The first is that every product, that reaches a user, is a representation of the total effort of multiple organizations, which are the supply chain. Secondly, while supply chains have been present for many years, many organizations have only been concerned with what is happening within their own organizations. In the past, very few businesses understood the entire supply chain of delivered products to customers. This often led to ineffective supply chains.

Organizations are grouped together using two types of flows: physical and information. Physical flows involve the actual labor of transforming, moving, and storing goods and materials. They are the most well known piece of the supply chain. Information flows help supply chain partners organize their plans, and also manage the daily flow of goods and materials in the supply chain.
